# Record Audio and Attach It To A Tag

Let's assume that you want to attach an audio recording to a tag, a common use for Tagger Tags. For example, you may have a photograph and you want to attach a tag to it with an audio file that explains who is in the photo or where it was taken. Or maybe you have a favorite children's book and you want to record yourself reading the book, attach it to a tag, attach the tag to the book and send the book to your grandchild across the country. Our perhaps you have an important document that would benefit from some extra explanation in your own words. Whatever the case, recording audio and using Tagger to associate that audio with a physical object is valuable and easy.

There are two steps to the process:

  1. Record the audio.
  2. Attach the audio to a tag.

Tagger does not include an integrated recording function, but you can use any method of recording you wish, as long as the resulting file is an MP3.

Note

Tagger should function with almost any audio format, but it is strongly recommended that you use MP3 to store the audio. MP3 is by far the most widely supported audio format and it's impossible to predict what browser the end user may try to use to listen to your audio, so use MP3.

# Record the Audio

Exactly how you record the audio is entirely up to you. You can record it on your phone or you can record it a desktop computer, it doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, the process for recording will vary by device so we will just cover a couple of common cases here.

# Recording Audio using iPhone

There are many great recording apps available for the iPhone, we'll use the Apple Voice Memos app since it should be available on any iPhone.

To create a recording:

  1. Launch Voice Memos App
  2. Press the record button
  3. Record your audio
  4. Press the stop button
  5. Press the three vertical disclosure buttons on the recording to show the share menu
  6. Select 'Save To Files'
  7. Note the name of the file and where you saved it
  8. Press save

That sounds complicated, but it's really simple. Below is a short video that will walk through the steps. The important points are to create an audio file that is saved in the Files section of the iPhone where it will be accessible to our Tag.

# Recording Audio using Android

There are many, many audio recording apps available for Android. The important issues to consider when picking one, as far as Tagger is concerned, are:

  1. Files are recorded in MP3 format.
  2. Files are saved to the local file system.

One app that does both of these is Easy Voice Recorder. The link below is a short video that shows how to record an audio using Easy Voice Recorder.

# Recording Audio using Windows

The standard Windows App for recording audio is Voice Recorder. When using Voice Recorder with Tagger, be sure to note the location of the recorded audio so it will be easy to find when you attach it to a Tag.

# Attach the audio to a Tag

Attach files to a Tag by clicking the attach button:

Tagger Attach Button

Browse to the audio file and select it for uploading. It can be tricky locating the correct file, especially on mobile devices. That's why it's important to note the name and location of the audio file when you create it.

TIP

All files are uploaded using the attach button. Tagger will automatically detect image files, audio files, and video files.

Below is a video that illustrates scanning a tag that is attached to a book and associating an audio file with that tag. Here are the steps:

  1. Stick a new tag on the book.
  2. Scan the tag with a QR Code scanning app.
  3. Name the tag.
  4. Click on the attach button, navigate to the saved audio and upload the file.
  5. Click on the file to play it.
